Thrift Store Treasures

The other day we decided it was high time for another Thrift Store Expedition. We love, love, love going to thrift stores and garage sales. You just never know what you might find. Like my great uncle Bob used to say, “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure.

I am a huge fan of finding treasures in the glassware, dishes and cookware section. Natasha on the other hand loves to rummage through the clothes area. I can’t be bothered searching for clothes. Natasha always seems to discover some hidden gem in the vast sea of old vintage clothing. Lots of times she even finds designer pieces! Don’t even ask me how she does it.  Every now and then when she discovers some amazing piece of clothing, I decide to mohzy on over and look through the racks too. Hoping that I’ll finally find that one awesome piece. After about 5 minutes I’m bored silly and head back over to the dishes. I can usually find at least one must have item in that section that speaks to me!

I am completely obsessed with bowls/plates and glasses. I have so many of both that I couldn’t possibly need anymore but I just can’t stop myself when I find something that catches my eye.

On this particular shopping trip I found numerous pieces that just had to come home with me! I mean, a girl can never have too many plates… and glasses… and bowls…

Just look at what I found..

016 good

Four plates and six goblet style glasses
(10 pieces)
Total spent = $22.

You may be thinking to yourself, why does she buy plates that don’t match?
Well… we purchase certain individual plates/dishes to use for displaying our baked goods that we feature on our blog. Sometimes I get crazy and will purchase a set of plates but I am realizing I have run out of cupboard space.  So now I mostly buy random pieces that I love.

025 good
Not one single chip & they look brand new!
The largest one was $4 and the other three were $2 each.

good
Made in England (the real deal)

They kinda remind me of china plates that my grandmother used to have & I adore them.

020

024 good
So beautiful.

027 good
Shuttt up! Love these goblets so much!
There were only 2 of these bronze coloured glasses there and they cost $2 each.

017
The four green glasses were $2 each.

It was so much fun finding all of these treasures!
We would love to hear about your thrift store/garage sale excursions and some of your best purchases!

Fall Beauty: Vampy Lips

Image

Nothing says Fall like dark, rich lip colours!
We believe the deeper & vampier the colour, the better.

Playing up your lips is an easy way to complete your look.
When you rock super sexy dark lips, keep the eye makeup neutral and let the lips be the main focus.

Tips for rockin’ dark lip colours:

Always line your lips first.
We’re not talking about a big, thick line of lip liner on the outside of your lips – Clown lips are definitely a no-no!
Use a lip liner that matches the colour of your lipstick and lightly create a faint line around the edges of your lips to help define & keep the colour from running.
If you are weary of lip-liners, we highly recommend a clear lip liner called No Bleeding Lips, which helps define your lips and prevents lip colours from bleeding.  (We love the product & will be featuring No Bleeding Lips on the blog soon).

Apply a thin layer of lip balm/moisturizer/primer before applying the lipstick.
Many lipsticks tend to be dry & matte, so applying a bit of lip balm before the lip colour helps hydrate your lips & prevents your lip colour from cracking.

Use a highlighter to contour your lips’ cupid’s bow.
Your cupid’s bow is the middle curve of the upper lip.
If you apply a light shimmery highlighter just above the cupid’s bow of your lips, it helps to make lips look more defined & full.
(Use Benefit’s Watt’s Up!, or any nude shimmery eyeshadow pencils/eyeshadows).

A tip for women with thinner lips:
if you have thin lips, dark lip colours will accentuate that and make thin lips look even slimmer. We recommend wearing dark reds, instead of intense browns and purples.

Here are two of our favorite lip colours this Fall.. (so far!)

1. Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in F-Bomb.
Rich and creamy lipstick with insane amounts of high-gloss shine – all captured in one chubby pencil.

Urban Decay’s Super-Saturated High Gloss Color’s are the ultimate – you get the best of a lipstick, gloss & stain all in one!
Easy to apply, this lip colour is long lasting, shiny, creamy & highly pigmented.

How great are the names of the colours in the Super-Saturated line as well?!
(F-Bomb, Naked, Adrenaline, Big Bang, Crush) Pretty funny!

We definitely recommend this Urban Decay Lip Color.

2. Guerlain Rouge Automatique in 170 Nuit d’Amour.

A gorgeous berry, purple colour.
We love Guerlain’s Rouge Automatique lip colours and have a few different colours.
They are amazing quality, very hydrating & long lasting.
A bit on the pricier side, but we believe its well worth it!

Spotlight: Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm

Image

Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm is a must-have for the Fall & Winter months.
Lips tend to get dry and cracked during the Winter due to the cold weather, and most lip chaps do nothing to help.
This Eight Hour Lip Repair Balm is designed to help strengthen your lip’s moisture barrier, while also providing long-lasting moisture that will immediately soothe your lips making it one of the best remedies for dry lips & skin!

We both adore this balm and have been through a few jars already.
It is definitely our go-to lip balm, and we both can’t recommend it enough!
Not only does it deeply moisturize dry, chapped lips, it also has a beautiful, clear sheen gloss affect to it so you can also use it as a lip gloss during the day.

Product comments:

– Even though the balm looks creamy, the formula is completely non-greasy, and long lasting!
– It has a faint, refreshing scent of eucalyptus and when first applied to your lips, it provides a really nice cooling sensation.
– You don’t just have to use this product on your lips – it can be applied to dry cuticles as well!
– Wear a thin layer of the balm underneath your lipstick to help keep lips hydrated.

Key ingredients:
(from Elizabeth Arden’s website)

Petrolatum, Shea Butter, Palm Tree Butter, Essential Fatty Acids Complex & Honey Extract – this mixture of emollients help to seal in moisture as it smoothes and softens lips.
Arnica Flower Oil – helps to heal dry, chapped lips and create a protective film to protect against future damage.
Vitamins A & E – known to firm the look of skin & other benefits.
Menthol & Menthol lactate – cooling agents to provide immediate soothing relief.
Cardiospermum Halicacabum – botanical extract which help soothe and calm skin.

Although this balm is a bit pricier, (ranging around $30) we believe it’s worth it!
We give Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream Intensive Lip Repair Balm a 5/5.

Have you tried any of the products in Elizabeth Arden’s ‘Eight Hour Cream’ line?!
Love the balm?!

Etsy Holiday Inspiration

Image

Etsy is a marketplace where people around the world connect to buy and sell unique goods. Our mission is to re-imagine commerce in ways that build a more fulfilling and lasting world.

I love Etsy.

For those who are not aware, Etsy is a website which focuses on the selling & buying of handmade, & vintage items.
I like to think of Etsy as a ‘craftier‘ version of Ebay.
You can find everything on the site from paintings, prints, art & craft supplies, to home decor, quilts, beauty, jewelry, & toys.

Each item is unique, and it’s a great way to support artisans, & support smaller businesses.
Plus you can also find plenty of ideas for some DIY projects!

I’ve purchased some really cute items from Etsy previously & highly recommend shopping on Etsy. My latest purchase were gorgeous knitted coffee cozies which you can see here.

I was browsing on Etsy earlier, and started looking at Holiday gifts & decor and was blown away at all the great gift ideas.
Etsy is such a great site to do some online Holiday shopping, especially if you are looking for unique, homemade, beautiful pieces!

Grab a cup of cocoa, turn on your Christmas playlist, get cozy in your Christmas PJ’s (come on, you know you have a pair! 😉 ) and browse with me on Etsy! 🙂

Here are some of my top Holiday Picks from Etsy:

Image

1. Winter Forest Wrapping Paper
from Etsy Seller: NormansPrintery

There’s few things I love more than beautifully wrapped Christmas presents under the tree. It’s almost like an art.
I love wrapping gifts, and have basically become the sole ‘gift wrapper‘ in my family. I love taking my time, and making the gifts look perfect, so I’m all about cute, unique wrapping paper.
This Forest Wrapping Paper is unique and perfectly vintage looking.

2. The Barrow – Chunky Infinity Scarf
from Etsy Seller: deroucheau

Nothing says Winter fashion like a nice, big, wool infinity scarf!
Essential piece of a girl’s Winter wardrobe.

3. Knitted Heart Fingerless Gloves
from Etsy Seller: KnitsbyVara

Cozy, homemade knitted gloves – perfect gift for her.

4. Burlap Dog Christmas Stocking
from Etsy Seller: ChristmasClaude

These doggie stockings are so adorable!
Pet’s are apart of the family, why not get a stocking for your fur-baby?

5. Glittered Acorn Christmas Ornaments – Set of 5
from Etsy Seller: AnnaBelleArts

I love the look of these glittery acorn ornaments.

6. Snowflake Christmas Earrings
from Etsy Seller: CloverPower

7. Christmas Reindeer Cushion
from Etsy Seller: CalicoandCotton

Cute reindeer pillow, perfect for a cabin!

8. Cardinals & Chickadees Christmas Wrapping Paper
from Etsy Seller: PaperandPresent

More pretty, unique wrapping paper. Love this bird design.

9. Custom Superhero Ornaments
from Etsy Seller: IttyBittyWoodShoppe

I thought these wooden superhero ornaments were so original, and creative. They would be so perfect for a kid’s tree, or a little boy’s tree!
If you’re a good painter, you could always make these yourself. I’m sure you could find plain wooden ornaments at a craft store, and paint them yourself. Would make for a great DIY & Christmas craft.

Have you ever bought or sold anything on Etsy before?

Laura Loves: POREfessional by Benefit

2012111491810 goodbenefit

POREfessional
by BENEFIT

Being a Makeup Artist and working in the cosmetic industry I get to try a lot of products.  (It’s a tough job but someone’s gotta do it!)  I also get asked all of the time for my opinion. When my clients ask for my opinion on products, I am always honest. Regardless if a company has given me their products to try or if I have purchased them it does not persuade my opinion. I will never represent a product I do not believe in.  All of our product reviews will be our opinion and our opinion only. Good or bad.

Sometimes I come across a gem of a product and I want to share it with everyone! Like this little miracle in a tube! It has made it on my ‘must have‘ list… and I like to keep that list short as possible. The less steps every morning the better!  I’m sure all you ladies agree!

This balm is used to minimize the appearance of pores and fine lines. The silky light weight, oil free formula can be used under foundation or on top. It also contains vitamin E which helps fight free radicals. So it not only helps the look of your skin, it’s also a prevention for anti aging. Perfect!

Although it’s listed as a ‘primer’, I have found that wearing it on top of my foundation works best for me. All over my nose and a little on the outer corner of my eyes (where the wrinkles laugh lines are) and just a touch on my forehead.  I use a different primer for all over which I will post another time.

You only need a small amount and pat it on lightly rather then rubbing it on. Think of it as a filler, of sorts. Smoothing your skin and prepping it for foundation. Or in my case as a finishing touch over my foundation.

Seriously in love with this product and recommend it 100%!

A Walk In The Park

IMG_1172 good

Since the Fall weather has been so beautiful the last few days, we wanted to really enjoy it & take some photographs at the park.
So we grabbed our camera, walked to Starbucks (obviously. Starbucks is a must), than to the park. The local Starbucks is literally only a 2 minute walk from our place and the park is also close by, so it’s perfect!

In other news, we finally got a new computer & everything is up and running, so you can expect regular posts from now on – We are so excited!

Image

How cute are these coffee cozies?!
I posted about them previously in my Favorite Things post which you can see here.
We love our coffee cozies! They do a great job of keeping the coffee warm. So handy & cute.
Laura got the Heart cozy, and Natasha got the Pumpkin cozy.

We ordered them from Faith’s Yarn Works on Etsy. Check out Ashlen’s work – she has some beautiful knitted goods. We are big fans! 🙂

Natasha’s Fall Wishlist

It’s no secret that I love Fall & all the goodness which it brings.

I especially love all the Fall fashion.. rich, deep colours, sweaters, gorgeous coats, tights & booties galore!

Here are some of the items I’ve been pining over…

Image

1. Talula Lambeth Dress from ARITZIA – $60

I adore this dress. It’s so simple, yet looks very flattering & I love the dress paired with the black tights. I want to start wearing more dresses during the Fall & Winter months, and I think that this is the perfect dress to help that transition. It looks comfortable & doesn’t really need any accessories which is always important to me when it comes to clothes. I’m definitely a ‘comfort’ over ‘fashion’ kinda girl. If I’m not comfortable, I’m not wearing it.

2. JONS Ankleboots from ALDO – $100

I’ve never actually owned a pair of ankleboots, but I think these are so cute & versatile.

3. Speed Tight by LULULEMON – $98

I am an avid runner & Vancouverite, so it was really only a matter of time before I mentioned Lululemon! I love, love, LOVE Lululemon. Every product that I have ever bought from Lulu has been excellent quality and lasted for years. I’m a big fan of & swear by the Wunder Under Crops. I’ve been wearing the same pair for the past 2 1/2 years on almost every single run that I go on, & they have been washed many times and yet, they’re still in excellent condition. It’s crazy!

I’ve loved Lululemon since I was 8 years old & received my first-ever lulu outfit for dance class from my Uncle. (At the time, lululemon wasn’t very popular and this was before the whole ‘Scuba Hoodie’ craze). Only my dance teachers at the studio knew about lulu, than gradually over the years, every dancer was sportin’ lulu.

I still have some retro Lululemon bags that are in mint condition from years ago – I’ll have to post them eventually!

If you’re looking for crops or pants for running, I definitely recommend Lululemon. They are pricey, but worth it in the long run.

4. Gil Cross-Body Bag in Ivy by MATT AND NAT – $88

I’m a big fan of cross-body purses. I can’t stand handbags and having to carry them around on my arm all day. Cross-body’s are so much comfier, and I think they look really cute & casual.

I love this Matt & Nat bag. Not only is it gorgeous, it’s also vegan!

About Matt & Nat: (copied from Chapters.ca)

Canadian Matt & Nat leads the way in cruelty-free fashion with their 100% vegan bags and accessories. Their Gil cross-body bag with adjustable straps has two interior zippered compartments, one zippered pocket at the front and an interior slip pocket with logo-embossed cork tag. Polished silver-toned hardware completes the look. 100% recycled nylon lining.

Now for the Kitchen & Home portion…

(I swear I didn’t plan the ‘orange’ theme! I’m just drawn to orange) 😉

5. LE CREUSET Tea For One Teapot in Flame – $40

I’ve been drooling over Le Creuset cookware for awhile now. My dream kitchen would have plenty Le Creuset cookware! Great quality & just gorgeous appliances.

6. LE CREUSET Tea Bag Holder in Flame – $10

Cute little tea bag holder to go with the teapot. Love the Flame colour.

7. SILPAT Baking Sheet

I know, I know! I’ve read about how great they are, and every baker must get one. I’m dying to try it out. Is it really worth all the hype? Comment below & let us know!

8. MARTHA STEWART’s Baking Handbook – $33

I love books, and have been wanting to grow my collection of cookbooks. This one came out quite a few years ago but seems to be a classic. I’ve only read good things about it.

What Fall Fashion trends & decor are you guys loving?, What’s on your Wishlist?!

These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things… (Instagram Edition)

Anyone else have a love/hate relationship with Instagram?

I love that you can find great ideas & inspiration on Instagram, its a simple way to make your photos look good, there’s literally thousands of photos for any subject that you’re looking for & its also a great way to keep up with friends & family (aka stalk-your-ex-boyfriend). 😉

On the other hand – you have to look through a ton of (how do I put it..) not-so-great photos to find quality ones, and it seems like every other photo is of a half-naked girl doing a duckface selfie.

So yes, Instagram has its pros & cons but I’d say the pros outweigh the cons…

Image

Here a few of my favorite Instagram photos:

(note: i did not take or own any of the photos above. instagram users are credited below.)

Top Left: Quilted Couch by Instagram User – elsiecake

OBSESSED with that couch. I will have a couch like that in my place someday. (a girl can dream!)

Top Right: Braided Updo by Instagram User – thestylebrowse

If I weren’t totally useless at doing my own hair, I would totally wear this bun everyday. (i mean it, everyday. seriously. that’s how much i love it.)

Bottom Left: Bright Floral Cake by Instagram User – goodiegirlcooks

This cake caught my eye.. I love the bright colours and the technique used for the flowers. I’d love to try flowers like that on a cake someday.

Bottom Right: Homemade Pumpkin Cozies for Coffee Cups by Instagram User – faithsyarnworks

Guys. How cute are these?! I’m obsessed. They would be a great gift for any girl who’s obsessed with pumpkin spice lattes. Ordering one soon!
